We hope that everyone had a safe and filling Thanksgiving weekend. We never did make it out on Scout (our 17'er) this Thanksgiving weekend, dead battery, then family obligations and weather. DARN! We did however, see both adult Bald Eagles at their nest on the East Haddam side of the river, fussing inside it. A good sign. Also saw several hawks, a Northern Harrier and a lone Pied Billed Grebe and male Golden Eye kinda hanging out together. We hope to get out this week (I'll sneak out of work early), supposed to be warm.
For a nice Christmas gift, don't forget a RiverQuest cruise! Safe and Happy Holidays Everyone!
The Red-Breasted Merganser and Grebe.... The Coopers Hawk......
There seems to be a celebrity rare bird hanging around the Hadlyme Ferry landing! There has been a Fork-tailed Flycatcher in and around the hill and brush near the parking area. This bird's range is Southern Mexico to South America. Cathy went to check it out on Monday and was amazed when watching it fly, what a great tail! It is still reported there Tuesday, someone saw it catching insects over the river... Hoping to get a glimse of it Wednesday on RiverQuest or the smaller boat Scout! We'll let you know what we find!
